  THE SKATALITES (JAM)

Without The Skatalites there would be no music known as ska. And without ska there would be nowhere near as much fun, not to mention the entire genre of reggae, which is originally based on ska. It is very difficult to overestimate the influence of The Skatalites in Jamaican popular music. This band, formed in summer 1964 by young top-notch musicians, plays on numerous classic Studio One recordings and already on its early days had the chance to accompany virtually every single one of best Jamaican singers. Despite playing together for more than four decades now, this super band hasn’t run out of steam yet - there have been some changes in the line-up, but the original rhythm twins Lloyd Brevett on the bass and Lloyd Knibbs on the drums as well as the saxophonist Lester “Ska” Sterling are still around, ready to give Ilosaarirock a genuine ska splash.
