The Finnish love of water is obvious to anyone who's been here; good thing, too, as there are, at last count, more than fifty-six thousand lakes for a population of just over five million. The traditional ideal of a sauna and cottage on the water is a standard for most Finnish families. So there´s little surprise at the popularity of the swimming area at Ilosaarirock, site of which is set on a sizeable and scenic lake. In a way, here on the festival grounds is a microcosm of summer Finnish culture. The long days and warm nights combined with access to a lake beach combine to form  the perfect way to enjoy a rockin' summer day. So bring your swimming shorts, but even if you forget, you can always go butt naked, like a couple pasty guys I unfortunately witnessed.
