MUDHONEY (USA)

Although Mudhoney had its beginnings in the almost mythical Seattle scene and the band made their first records with the legendary Sub Pop label, their music was always a bit too eccentric for world-class mega popularity like that gained by some other bands with similar backgrounds, such as Nirvana or Pearl Jam. On the other hand, their detachment from the mainstream might be just the reason that saved Mudhoney from burnout or never becoming a tired, boring dinosaur.

Mudhoney mixed the best features from garage rock and Black Sabbath, thus pioneering the music genre that later somebody else decided to start calling "grunge", and in the process paving the way for many other success stories from Seattle. It is, then, not very far-fetched to say that when Mudhoney takes the stage in Ilosaarirock, you are certain to see Clio the muse of History somewhere in the audience, humming softly to the sound of Arm and Turner's buzzing guitars.
