Stam1na was one of last year's most talked-about new bands in Finland. Their quirky metal with plenty of rhythmic hooks was a sure bet in the Best Newcomer lists of a number of Finnish rock bibles, but a tiny detail made Stam1na stand apart from all the other listed bands: their career had lasted already for almost ten years before their first album was finally released and the hard work started to bear its first fruit.
The self-titled debut album and the accompanying gigs made Stam1na a household name among the nation's metalheads. This year's second album Uudet kymmenen käskyä is, again, something totally unheard-of in the Finnish metal scene: never before has a Finnish metal band combined such virtuous handling of instruments and such complicated, but catchy riffs with such smart lyrics. And the best news is that Stam1na live is even more breathtaking than Stam1na on record.
