VOLTAS

Voltas is a band that many would like to see as The Next Big Joensuu Thing. Whatever their fate will be, at least their career has gone the right way right from the beginning. Having played together for less than a year, the band took part in the international Global Battle of the Bands 2004 contest, taking the Finnish qualifier by storm. The next stop for the lads was, then, the global finals at the legendary London Astoria club. No wonder that the young band was now the talk of the town everywhere in Finnish music circles, despite the fact that their first recording, a split EP with Peace Band, did not come out until the following year.

This year's four-song EP 17 is a living proof that Voltas' street rock is constantly getting bigger, better and faster. Their vocalist Kaapo Kokkonen has enough personality and charisma to fill the entire Millennium Dome, let alone a humble festival ground somewhere in Eastern Finland, filled with some 20,000 festival goers yearning to be charmed.
