Discard

Testament from Finland, could it be? Discard, a bunch that first knocked their hairy heads together in Joensuu, may well be on their way to become something that does not pale in comparison with Chuck Billy's lot. At the time of their first Ilosaarirock Festival gig at the Metelli Club in 2006 they were still the young locals with lots of potential; but during the past couple of years the band has made some important moves in the lively Finnish metal subculture. The demo Bury the Sun already brought Discard not only their Metelli Club deal, but also generous praise from various demo tape columns and a recording contract from a brand new Finnish metal label, Shadow World.

On their last year's debut album Carrion Discard's sound hits the ears as a thick riff stew where no fingerboard fantasy is too baroque to be played out. The cherry on top, or the meatball, is the vocalist Heikki Miettinen's thunderous grunt that makes one wonder how on earth an ordinary-looking Finnish young fella can emit such a sound, and with such volume. The first album has taken Discard all over the country, so next summer will be the perfect time for them to show their home crowd what they have learned on the road.
