Ismo Alanko Teholla

Ismo Alanko Teholla

In the spring last year, there was an unexpected piece of news: two legendary characters of Finnish rock'n'roll, Ismo Alanko and Teho Majamäki, would start a project together. Said and done, and so the co-operation between the singer/guitarist/songsmith and the drummer spawned a diminutive, yet great ensemble Ismo Alanko Teholla. On a series of gigs in the spring and summer 2007, they showed the thrilled audiences all over the country – also at Ilosaarirock Festival – that a captivating, yet credible soundscape can well be created by two people only.

Whether the stage is large or a more intimate one, Ismo Alanko Teholla will fill it from corner to corner with an inimitable atmosphere, switching from a quiet dialogue between the piano and the vibraphone to a thunderous rumble of percussions and the electric guitar. Still more nuances are added by the cello and an assortment of more exotic instruments.

The duo's set list comprises, self-evidently, many takes from Ismo Alanko's extensive back catalogue, both from his solo career and the material he has written with such legends of Finnish rock as Hassisen Kone and Sielun Veljet. These are the tunes that almost every single Finnish music lover can hum to, but in Ismo Alanko Teholla's hands they get a brand new and unexpected polish. What's more, the duo also released their first album this spring, containing only new tracks, and we're all dying to hear what they sound like live.
