M.A. Numminen ja Pedro Hietanen

Not too many Finnish artists can be said to have performed at festivals ever since the very first ones came into existence. But M.A. Numminen can. With a minor footnote, though: actually, Numminen's career as a performing artist is older than the history of Finnish summer festivals, since he started touring already in the 1960s. That's before Woodstock, or before any European rock festival for that matter.

It's no wonder that over the years Numminen has written more than a handful of songs – art rock, pop songs, songs for children, choir pieces, operas – but also issued literature in the form of poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and children's books. And all this in three languages: Numminen is competent in expressing his many-faceted personality both in Swedish and German, and has enjoyed some cult success in both countries. Though his latest projects include touring with ambient/drum'n'bass/electro-orientated DJ Sane, at Ilosaarirock Festival we will see him with his trusted friend from across the decades, the accordionist Pedro Hietanen.
