The super nice guys of Medeia

15_medeia_001_tp.jpgMedeia of modern metal was responsive for the roughest ride on Sunday evening. The energic pounding wasn’t diminished by the beautiful weather, as usually happens to metal bands in daylight. The devoted performance created a strangely good mood for the gig, which in turn formed an interesting contrast to the songs, which are very gloomy. Especially the guitarist Samuli Peltola was on fire, his fingers blitzing on the fretboard in shattering speed, even if there weren’t any real guitar solos in the songs.

The front man of the band, Keijo Niinimäki, is also known from Rotten Sound. His years of experience in the line of duty show, and when he shouts the pressure is so immense his veins bulge from his forehead to his shins. Almost all of the other members contribute to background vocals, which unfortunately were completely inaudible during the gig. Generally the mood in the gig was much closer to a good punk concert than an overly serious one. The drummer Janne Putkisaari deserves a special mention as well, it’s always nice to watch a skilled metal drummer who doesn’t hold himself back and pounds his instrument with all his strength.
