Fanfare sounds

Fanfare CiocârliaOne of the most interesting artists in this years Ilosaarirock must’ve been Romanian Fanfare Ciocârlia. When selecting bands Ilosaarirock organizers are famous for the open mindness towards new names. Rentolava’s fourth act on Sunday afternoon is fairly unknown name to the Finnish audience but definitely will be remembered after today’s show.

Fanfare Ciocârlia plays world music in its fullest meaning. Its sound takes one back to childhood’s circus shows and puts smile on one’s face. The band’s Romanian background can be heard but other influences like latino and flamenco beats are present as well. The band themselves calls their music balkanfunk. When the band took over Rentolava the first sounds were something from a funeral band.

As gig went on the douzen of brasses on stage made the audience move their hips to the sound of balkanfunk. The band’s front man’s sympathic comments in Romanian won over the love of the Finnish audience and connection was made. A lot of happy face were seen leaving Rentolava after the band had finished. Fanfare Ciocârlia will be warmly welcomed to Finland in future years to come.
