Black Motor
What a nice surprise! The jazz representation at this year's Ilosaarirock Festival is strengthened by the Finnish trio Black Motor. Be prepared for an extremely serpentine ride that may contain anything from relaxed cool jazz outing to lunatic free jazz-induced reckless driving with the late Albert Ayler on the back seat, shouting sketchy instructions as to where to go next.
Having played and gigged together for a few years now, in late 2008 the combo released a new studio album Vaarat vastukset – and, in the bargain, a live album Club El Toro too. Hard core jazz fans and laymen alike have unanimously applauded both releases. In July, Black Motor starts again with a pleasant purr, and everyone who's open-minded enough is welcome to join the ride.
