Children of Bodom

They've been everywhere, they've seen it all, they've played it all, they've drunk it all. Children of Bodom, the number one export product of the Finnish extreme metal has been together for considerably more than a decade now – sixteen years in total, if the band's precursor formed by a bunch of teenage death metal heads, IneartheD, is also taken into account. And yet the average age of the members of the band, besides the guitarist Roope Latvala who joined in 2003, is only just about thirty.

In the light of all that has happened during those years, it is not much. Children of Bodom is, indeed, a lovely, lively little metal masher onstage, and if the advanced years and the subsequent touring experience of the band as a collective have crystallized into an immaculate confidence with its instruments, the relative youth of the individual members is visible and audible in their energy and sharpness. Indeed, the years have decreased the musicians' enthusiasm to worship their instruments and boiled the essence of CoB down to a more straightforward rock'n'roll attitude. There is no reason to suspect that these boy scouts of metal, fresh from their lengthy European and U.S. tours, would not be fighting fit to face the Ilosaarirock Festival audience in July.
