All good things must come to an end, and that sadly goes for this year's Ilosaarirock Festival, too. After three days of great music, beautiful people and unforgettable events, our special thanks go to the people who made all this possible – you, our dear festival guests, that is.
To help you cope with the evident Post Festival Depression, loads of pictures, stories and other highlights of the weekend have been made available in the Festival Life section of this site to help you remember what a great time we had – and help you start preparing yourself for the next year's festival, taking place between 13 and 15 July, 2012. We can't wait to see you there!

Ladies, gentlemen and Gentleman, it's happened again! The Ilosaarirock Festival 2011 is now officially sold out. We've been here before, as this is the 14th consecutive year when there will be no more tickets available at the festival gates. However, a limited number of tickets for the clubs (Sulo and Töminä) taking place on the Friday night before the festival will be on sale at the entrances to the respective clubs.
Now it's a great moment to start preparing for the festival! Do take a look at the Festival Guide in English and read our Info pages – if you have any questions, it's very likely that you can find the answers there. Printed copies of the Festival Guide will also be available at the Info point in the festival area. Oh, we can hardly wait, but it's only a few hours now! It's lovely to see you there!
Read our Festival Guide for information about Ilosaarirock, festival area, city of Joensuu and a host of helpful festival tips and advice. You can also pick your copy at festival info point, located next to the Third stage, about 50 metres from the Main gate.
The finishing touches and the last artists have now been added to the Ilosaarirock Festival's line-up. Celebrating its 40th anniversary, the festival has the pleasure to host the legendary British ska act Madness and the American neo soul miracle man Cody ChesnuTT. Check the complete line-up and the schedules here.
Again this year, the beats of Tunnelmissa Reggae Disco, played by the best Finnish selectors, are yours to enjoy near the Rento stage. The moods at the disco vary from tender rocksteady rhythms all the way to quick and dirty dancehall tunes, while the songs can be anything from the very cornerstone songs of reggae to latest hit riddims. Come on, join the dance!
Again this year Ilosaarirock Festival weekend kicks off with Töminä Club which offers best punk and hardcore acts from Finland. Here you'll find the running order for Ilosaarirock 2011. This running order is not set in stone, but we hope this year there won't be any changes.
Volunteering is another way of experiencing Ilosaarirock Festival. We are still looking volunteer workers to make Ilosaarirock Festival happen. Read more how to apply to be a volunteer here.
We have Kate Nash (UK), The Exploited (UK), Michael Monroe, Rubik, Villa Nah, Von Hertzen Brothers and more. A list of confirmed performers can be found here. And remember: Ilosaarirock Festival ticket sales begin on Monday 4th April.
Volunteering offers a different way of experiencing a rock festival: volunteers get to peek behind the curtain and see how a large festival really functions. You can send in your application right away. We also need volunteers who speak different languages in many kinds of tasks; being able to speak Finnish is not compulsory! If you are interested in volunteering, read more here.
Forty years is a respectable age for a rock festival. A lot has happened since the first Ilosaarirock Festival took place in Joensuu in 1971. Ilosaarirock started as a small festival, but has now reached a mature age and established itself as one of the highlights of the Finnish rock festival schedule.
As usual, the line-up comprises a varied setting of music from different parts of the world, from Tokyo via Barcelona to Los Angeles, and everywhere in between. We have names such as Aphex Twin (UK), Blackfield (UK/ISR), Buzzcocks (UK), Gentleman (GER), Iced Earth (USA), Kvelertak (NOR), Melt-Banana (JPN), Ojos De Brujo (SPA) and Red Sparowes (USA). We couldn't celebrate our anniversary in more style as many of these bands we have been trying to get to Ilosaarirock for years! During the festival weekend there are altogether more than 70 artists performing in the festival area and in the clubs, with lots of new acquintances as well as happy reunions with old friends. We will publish more confirmed artist during the spring. A list of all confirmed performers is here.
Undoubtedly the most awaited gig in Finland this summer comes from the final performer on Saturday, namely the legendary Sielun Veljet. They have last played a public gig 20 years ago. We are happy and proud to have Sielun Veljet play one more gig in the Ilosaarirock Festival! You can read more about the band here.
The Ilosaarirock ticket sale starts on Monday April 4th. You are warmly welcome to celebrate with us – see you in July!
