Finntroll

Troll Metal from Hell

Finntroll is one of the most original groups within the Finnish metal scene. In fact, the entire idea behind the band is surreal. The group defines itself as troll metal, the lyrics are in Swedish and their musical style combines Emperor and Elškelšiset. Going back a few decades, had someone predicted that such a group would represent Finland around the world, he or she would've probably ended up in the loony bin in no time. Nevertheless, Finntroll has proven that having faith in your own doings pays off. The band has released five full-length albums, and the latest, Nifelvind, was released also in Europe and the States. Finntroll has toured the world for years and before coming to Joensuu they'll be visiting Australia, Argentina and Brazil, among other faraway lands. In other words, we should expect to see some well-tanned trolls at Ilosaarirock Festival.

Nifelvind presents us an even more twisted and diabolic Finntroll. Their sound is now slightly more modern and closer to black metal, but the pagan elements familiar from the older material are still present. The group's grip has also evolved towards punchier and fiercer direction. That's why you can be damn sure that the most gallant jigs of Ilosaarirock Festival will be heard at the Finntroll gig. When these trolls come climbing out of their caverns, you'd better not miss it!
