Jean Sibelius is the most successful Finnish musician, but if Apocalyptica keep on going on the same way they have been doing so far they could potentially beat him at some point. After all, this group of cellists, led by Eicca Toppinen, is the first Finnish band to have a number one hit on the American Billboard chart.
Despite their worldwide success, Apocalyptica have found time to perform frequently in Finland. The last time they played in Ilosaarirock Festival in 2009 was a bit of a surprise as they replaced Maximo Park who had lost their gear in a Spanish storm. By the time Apocalyptica started their set, hardly anyone missed the British rockers – that's how hot the show by Toppinen and his colleagues was.
This time we announce their gig well ahead so that the band's fans have plenty of time to get ready for the experience. Apocalyptica are one of those bands that are best when experienced live. The difference between Apocalyptica and the more traditional rock bands, in addition to their great songs and sovereign performances, is that in their hands three cellos rock harder than a hundred electric guitars.
