Lissie (USA)

Lissie

Take notes: American folkrock-singer Lissie is an artist to remember! In the States, Lissie is becoming a household name – for example, Lenny Kravitz picked her to tour with him and a remix of Lissie's song by Deadmau5 was nominated for a Grammy. And all this happened before she had even released her first full-length album!

Lissie's debut album Catching a Tiger is amazing. Her folk and country music influenced pop songs are close to perfection, just listen to the iTunes single of the year, When I'm Alone. Lissie also has a knack of choosing her associates well. Her first EP was produced by Bill Reynolds of Band of Horses, and it was released by Fat Possum. The EP contains a song co-written with Ed Harcourt. Lissie has also featured on albums by Robbie Williams and Snow Patrol, and she has covered Nick Cave and Led Zeppelin songs. Lissie's second album will be produced by the legendary Jacknife Lee.

Despite all this namedropping, the most important thing with Lissie are the gigs. She is an astounding performer and interpreter. One indicator of this is that her live videos on YouTube have reached over a million views. Our colleague from Norway's Slottsfjell Festival, P-C Rae says that Lissies performance became one of the greatest shows in their history:

“ After her show in 2010 when she played early afternoon on one of the smaller stages (still to a sizable crowd) Lissie was someone we wanted to bring back at the earliest possible opportunity and what a booking it would prove to be.

The highpoint of the entire festival perhaps being when she did a cover of Norwegian rock heroes Jokke og Valentinere, delivered in the original Norwegian.

A proper where were you when... moment.”

You better not miss this show!
