Sigur Rós (ISL)

Sigur Rós

Sigur Rós is one of a kind. Ágætis byrjun, their album released in 1999, introduced the world to an Icelandic band whose beautiful music bubbled with pure emotion and arctic yearning. The songs were warm and wistful, but the true wonder was caused by the otherworldly soundscapes unlike anything heard before. The critics and music lovers all over the world fell to their knees before first victorious steps of the Icelanders.

During this millennium, Sigus Rós has gone wherever the creative winds have blown them. They've released albums, participated in film projects and developed a language of their own, vonlenska (hopelandish), which they've employed in some of their lyrics. Live Sigur Rós is a stirring combination of stupefyingly beautiful music and stunning visuals that take your breath away.

For over ten years, Ilosaarirock Festival has tried to book Sigur Rós, only to be folded by tour schedule and timetable problems. Finally, in the summer of 2013, Sigur Rós' first Finnish festival performance will become reality. Attendance is recommended.
