Alice in Chains (USA)

Alice in Chains

Do we really need to introduce this band? Alice in Chains has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide since its inception in 1987. Together with Pearl Jam, Nirvana and Soundgarden, it is one of the Big Four of grunge, even if musically it has always been heavier than anything else. Alice in Chains is also arguably the most influential grunge band with the best staying power, and the impact of its albums – Dirt in particular – on loud and heavy rock music is tremendous.

Listening to Alice in Chains is an invariably cathartic experience. The original singer Layne Staley, who died from an overdose in 2002, sounded like he was suffering for us all when he sang. Fortunately the band's story didn't end with the death of one of its founding members, and the current line-up – Jerry Cantrell, Mike Inez, Sean Kinney and William DuVall – has played together since 2006. The band's newest album, The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here, was released in May 2013 and proves that Alice in Chains is still very much alive and relevant even to new fans.

Ilosaarirock Festival welcomes the kings of Seattle! See you in the front row!
