What is cashless payment?

Cashless is a payment method that utilises a radio frequency identification (RFID) chip, without bank cards or cash. Like numerous big festivals in the recent years, Ilosaarirock Festival is adopting cashless payment. This means that within the festival grounds you cannot pay with cash or bank cards, but all purchases are made with the cashless wristband.

You will get the most out of your cashless wristband by uploading money to it in advance. This can be done with the festival account.

You can create an account on this website from June onwards. The account is created with the number code on your festival ticket.

How do I create an account?

The festival account can be created here.

To create an account, you will need the number code next to the bar code of Ilosaarirock's entrance ticket (note that you cannot create an account with a camping ticket). If you have multiple entry tickets (day tickets, for example), create an account with the first festival day ticket. If you have a Friday and Sunday ticket, create an account with the Friday ticket. The Sunday ticket is then added to the wristband at the wristband changing point.

The account can be used upload money from 10€ to 500€ on your chosen payment method: online banking, credit card and mobile payment. The payment broker is Checkout Finland Oy. The maximum amount of money that can be on the account is 500€ for security reasons.

You can upload money from June until the festival closes. You can also download money into your account during the festival, for example, at home or, the network permitting, at the festival area.

You can always also check the balance on your wristband at the account. This is also always shown to you with each purchase. At the account you can also conveniently see the electronic receipts for each purchase made with the wristband. The account transactions and receipts can be viewed until the end of 2018. The information will then be erased.

Uploading money and creating an account is free of charge.

The account is personal and can only be used by one person. One person can only have one account. It is not necessary to create an account, but it makes the festival experience a lot easier.

Uploading money to your cashless wristband

You can use all the common ways of payment (online bank transfers, credit card, mobile pay...) to add money to the wristband. This can be done in your festival account. After Friday 13th July 3pm you can only upload money with your credit card.

Another option is to head to the top-up points at the festival area, where you can add credit to your wristband using cash or bank cards. The festival area has three large top-up points, please see festival site map. Ravileirintä camping also has its own top-up point.

Adding credit to your wristband is free, and the money will be transferred to the RFID chip without delay.

The maximum amount that can be added to the wristband at one time is 500 euros.

The unused money will be refunded after the festival.

What is an automatic top-up, an auto top-up?

If you have created a festival account you have the opportunity to activate the automatic top-up, “auto top-up”. With the help of the auto top-up you can upload more money to your wristband when the balance is running low. The auto top-ups can be done when you are buying something, e.g. at the bar area. This means that you don’t have to go to the top up point. The sum for the auto top-ups can be defined on your festival account page.

The auto top-up is activated via festival account. You choose the wanted amount that you can then choose to upload when you are buying something. The chosen amount is then charged from your card immediately.

You need a credit card to use auto top-up.

Paying with the cashless wristband

Payment with the wristband is similar to paying with bank cards that have the contactless payment option. To purchase your items, hold your wristband close to the reader. You will see the balance of your wristband with every payment.

The receipts of the purchases can be found on the festival account. If you haven't created an account, you can get the receipts from this web page by using the number on the wristband.

Cash refunds

You can get refunded for your unused money by filling and submitting a refund form after the festival has ended. Fill in your name, email address, your bank details and the ID number on the festival wristband chip. Please check that all the information is filled correctly.

Apply for the refunds by the end of July. Refunded money will be on your bank account within one week.

PLEASE NOTICE! You will need the number on your wristband chip to get refunded, so do not throw your wristband away.

Exchanging your ticket for a wristband and activating it

You change your ticket for a wristband before entering the festival, just like before. You can do this during the festival week at the Rokkikontti Information Point located at the Joensuu city center, or from Friday onwards at the Main Gate wristband changing point. Those of you who are staying at the camping sites can also change your tickets at the Ravileirintä and Niittyleirintä gates. When you change your ticket for a wristband, the chip in the wristband will be activated. Your festival- and camping tickets will be attached to the wristband, as well as any money you have added to it in advance.

Why cashless?

We are introducing cashless for three reasons:

  1. Security: cashless is a secure payment method. A wristband is unlikely to go missing and all receipts will be stored electronically.
  2. It's fast and easy: cashless is the fastest and easiest way of paying for purchases.
  3. Queuing: cashless minimizes queuing at the festival grounds.

Security

Cashless is a secure and reliable closed system. The operating principle of the wristband is similar to that of contactless payment with debit and credit cards. Because your wristband will be literally on hand constantly, making purchases is even faster than with debit card contactless payment. It is not easy to lose a wristband that is attached to your wrist, and it is nearly impossible to misuse. The wristband can not be removed without breaking it, so you don’t have to worry about having your method of payment with you throughout the festival weekend.

You can only use a wristband that is attached to your wrist.

The wristband and its chip are resistant to water, sun lotion and general festival life atmosphere.

If you notice that your wristband has gone missing or is not working, please proceed to the Main Gate information point to resolve the matter.

All information attached with the festival account, such as credit card information are protected on a secure server.

Payment methods

Payments are handled by Checkout Finland Oy.

Checkout is a safe payment method. The payment service provided by Checkout Finland Oy (business ID 2196606-6) has been authorized by the Financial Supervisory Authority. Checkout is part of the OP Financial Group.

Checkout is a money transfer service that transfers the customer's payments to Ilosaarirock Festival. When Checkout Finland Oy appears on your bank statement or credit card invoice, your payment has been processed by Checkout.

Ilosaarirock Festival acts as the marketer and supplier of products and services to the customer. Ilosaarirock Festival is responsible for the legal obligations regarding transactions and other terms and conditions defined by Ilosaarirock Festival. Should you want a reimbursement or return a product, you will need to contact the seller – Ilosaarirock Festival – directly.

Bank payment

Ilosaarirock Festival's cashless-site has payment buttons for all Finnish banks. The service provides payment options through Aktia, Danske Bank, Handelsbanken, Nordea, Oma Säästöpankki, Osuuspankki, POP-pankki, Säästöpankki, S-pankki and Ålandsbanken. On your bank statement Checkout Finland Oy will appear as the payment receiver who will transfer the payment to the online merchant. You will be redirected from the Ilosaarirock Festival's cashless-site to your own online bank service for a secure payment.

Credit card payment

On Ilosaarirock's cashless-site and online store you can pay with Visa, Visa Debit, Visa Electron, MasterCard and Debit MasterCard. The online store uses international verification services Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode. Checkout will appear as the payment receiver on the credit card invoice and they will transfer the customer's credit / debit card payment directly to Ilosaarirock Festival. Payment card transactions are processed through a secure payment form and no payment card data will be stored by the online store.

Mobile payment methods

Masterpass, MobilePay and Pivo are mobile payment apps that enable the payment of online purchases. The transaction is accepted in the app by using either a direct bank transfer or a credit / debit card payment. With Pivo the customer can also use Siirto-payments and accept transactions in any app that supports Siirto.

What is Cashless?

The wristband is also your access to the festival area and all your festival and camping site tickets will be transferred in to your wristband.

Where do I get my wristband?

You change your ticket to the wristband before entering the festival area. You can do this during the festival week at the “Rokkikontti” information point located in the Joensuu city center, or from Friday onwards at the Main Gate wristband changing point. If you are staying at one of the camping sites, you can also change the ticket at the Ravileirintä and Niittyleirintä camping gates.

How do I upload money to my wristband?

It is possible to upload money to your wristband beforehand online via your Festival account and during the festival at the Top-up points. Ravileirintä camping site has its own Top-up point. Unused money can be refunded after the festival.

Is there an additional payment when uploading money?

Adding credit to your wristband is free, and the money will be transferred to the RFID chip without delay.

How can I upload money beforehand?

Money can be uploaded to your wristband via your own Festival account. Go to the cashless section of the Ilosaarirock website and register with your email and festival ticket number. Notice that you cannot create an account with your camping ticket!

With which payments I can upload money to my Cashless Account?

You can use all the common ways of payment: online bank transfers, credit card and mobile pay. Payments are handled by Checkout Finland Oy.

How long can I upload money to my Festival Account?

Money can be uploaded from June all the way until the festival's closing time. After Friday 13th July 3pm you can only upload money using credit card. That way we make sure there's no delay because of weak connections.

How can I get my receipts?

All the receipts of your purchases are in electrical form. If you created your own Festival account, you find your receipts there and those can be checked until the end of the year. After this all information will be erased.

I created a Festival account, but I didn't get the confirmation email. What should I do?

If you don't get the confirmation email, check first your email-s trash folder. If you still cannot find it and it doesn’t arrive after you have waited for a while, send an email to: and we will solve it out.

How can I upload money by using Festival account?

Your Festival account shows you different ways to upload money. You can upload money by choosing the payment method and sum, confirm purchase and money will be transferred.

You can also choose automatic top-up payment which means that you can upload cash automatically with one click when you are purchasing something when the wristband is running out of cash. This is possible only if you have connected your payment card to your Festival account.

What is an automatic top-up, an auto top-up?

By uploading cash via your Festival account, you avoid traffic and lines at the festival site Top-up points. When using the Festival account, you make sure that we find your information if you break or lose your wristband.

I have two tickets for two different days. What do I do?

Create your Festival account by using your ticket which you are going to use first. Take your second ticket with you to change your wristband, this second ticket will be transferred to your wristband.

How much should I upload money?

You can upload money to your wristband from 10 euros to 500 euros, but we suggest you upload enough money for your entire visit. By doing this you avoid traffic at the Top-up points.

How long can the wristband and Festival account be used?

The wristband can be used during the festival at the festival site, where it can be used as much as you like. Festival account and its receipts can be checked until December 31st, 2018. After this all information on Festival account will be erased.

What can I buy with my wristband?

The wristband is the only accepted payment method at the festival site where you can use it to buy drinks, food, accessories and other services.

What will happen if I don't have enough money on my wristband?

If you don't have money on your wristband you are not able to buy anything. You can upload money at the Top-up points in the festival area.

Can I use my wristband elsewhere for purchases?

No, you cannot. Wristbands are festival specific, so the wristbands cannot be use elsewhere other than in Ilosaarirock festival area.

How do I get the unspent money back?

You can get refunded for you unused money by filling and submitting a form on this site after the festival has ended. The refund form is open from 48hours after the festival, until 31.7.2018 at 23.59. The refunds will be returned to the customer's bank account within one week after sending the refund form. We do no refund sums under 2€ and each refund has a transfer fee of 1€.

You need to fill your name, e-mail address, banking information and your wristbands chip number in the refund form.

Is it safe to use Cashless?

Cashless is a secure and reliable closed system. The operating principle of the wristband is safe, and it is not easy to lose a wristband that is attached to your wrist, and it is nearly impossible to misuse. The wristband cannot be removed without breaking it, so you don't have to worry about having your method of payment with you throughout the festival weekend.

The wristbands function with their own program and all the devices on the festival area are coded for the sole need and use of the Ilosaarirock festival.

A wristband which is not attached on your wrist is not accepted as a payment method.

Is it privacy policy noted?

Yes. System functions with its own program in a safe environment and all the licences are protected. The purchase information is not connected to Festival information. A person named by organizer has its right to do so if a customer asks for it.

Information is used just for Ilosaarircok Cashless -system actions, improvements and statistics. Information is also used for interaction in the Cashless -system. More information of privacy policy here.

Is the wristband waterproof?

The wristband and its chip are resistant to water, sun lotion and festival life.

My cash balance doesn't seem to be right, what should I do?

Within every purchase you will see your purchase amount and the remaining balance. If you have any doubts of your purchase, you can go to Top-up points in the festival area or to the Info Point and ask a member of staff to show you your receipts. You can also check your purchases from you own Festival account on the internet.

Notice! There might be some delay caused by festival situations, why your purchase history doesn’t seem to be updating in real time. In this kind of a situation we recommend waiting until the next day, and check if the purchases are updated.

If I lose my wristband what should I do?

If you notice that your wristband is missing, or it is not working, go to the Info Point near the main gate which is open 24h. Show your festival ticket or wristband’s number and we can close the previous wristband and transfer its information to your new wristband. All of your wristband’s information will be transferred into your new wristband.

Make sure you react straight away if your wristband goes missing. If it has been misused while getting a new one, unfortunately the festival cannot compensate any losses in these situations.

Why does my refund page show a balance less than what was remaining at the end of the festival?

The refund system will automatically calculate the correct refundable balance. All devices are checked after the festival and all purchased will be checked.

Why cannot I activate my parking ticket?

A parking ticket cannot be linked to your wristband. Parking tickets can be bought beforehand. You can print or show your parking ticket from you mobile to the parking staff.
