2017 was full of superlatives for Vesta. This promising singer released two singles, Sun Katu and Ota Varovasti, both of which are painfully relatable stories about how love hurts and one's soul is rubbed raw. The Finnish music magazine Soundi also chose Vesta as their newcomer of the year. This singer-songwriter's music lives somewhere between indie and mainstream, and her live performances were creating more and more talk. One such gig was much enjoyed at Ilosaarirock Festival's Soundi Stage.
Despite the well-deserved newcomer title, Vesta feels like an experienced lyricist and songmaker. Her upcoming album has been long in production with Jori Sjöroos, and we anticipate great things from it. One of the reasons is that producer Sjöroos is still revered as the songsmith behind PMMP. Along with powerful lyrics, the singularly captivating sound that sidesteps expected mannerisms is another link between the two musical acts.
It is highly likely that Vesta is maturing into Finnish pop music's next big thing, so let's welcome her with open arms to Ilosaarirock Festival and see her find her place among the brightest talents in Finland.
