The most progressive band of siblings in Finland, Von Hertzen Brothers, has in a decade established itself as one of the foremost English-language rock bands in the country. Their ouevre is characterised by a fresh, catchy and playful approach to ambitious hard rock. However, even though they tend to make structurally complex songs with innovative rhythm patterns, these are not the main thing. The brothers will always prefer to rock out with a smile on their face instead of frowning to some kind of orthodox progressive music.
The latest album of the band, War Is Over, is an excellent synthesis of both hooks and twists: powerfully wailing guitars, immaculate polyphonic vocal parts and drum beats to die for, you got them all. The last one on the list is taken care by Sami "The Best Drummer in Finland" Kuoppamäki, of Kingston Wall fame. All in all, the legacy of Finnish prog is in very good hands.
