Ilosaarirock returned to the normal day routine

Sun shines on festival-goers in Laulurinne

On Saturday evening the weather returned to normal and the finally shining sun raised applause from the audience. On Sunday the sun has shone on the festival area and the weather is really warm.

All of the artists have arrived and the festival is running on schedule. The Metelli Club sold a bit over a thousand tickets and the Closing Club is expected to sell out. The Eläkeläiset 15-year-anniversary concert really lift the mood and the dancing lines probably were world record long. As usual, the night ended with fireworks.

"It’s great for festival organisers to end both days with local artists. Other local talents from Stella to Discard have shown that our level is up to national and international standards" says seemingly happy Markku Pyykkönen, executive director, Joensuu Pop Musicians' Association.

The Mike Patton – Mondo Cane & the Ilosaarirock sinfonietta have been practising since Thursday for the show on Sunday. There’ll be about 40 musicians on the stage. The Ilosaarirock Sinfonietta consists mainly of the musicians of the Joensuu city orchestra. The atmosphere in the rehearsals has been intense and excited and is promising an amazing show for the night.

Mike Patton with his closest co-workers prepared for Saturday night's show in a traditional Finnish manner, spending the summery evening in a summer cottage with some sauna, swimming and sausage.

The recycling campaign has been going well, so well actually that the recyclable paper plates and cups have run out.

There are about 2,700 tents in the camping areas around the festival site. The new safety regulations with safety spaces between tents and the grilling forbiddance have been taken into use well and the security have had to interfere only in some isolated cases.
