Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde at Ilosaarirock – Faith No More’s ferocious tour closing

19.7.2010

Faith No More – an immense experience and exceeding ambience created and served to the eager festival crowd by Mike Bordin, Roddy Bottum, Billy Gould and the one and only Mike Patton, a man without a measure and a verbal acrobat extraordinaire. (lisää…)

Headbanging Amorphis

19.7.2010

Amorphis is one of those bands who’ve done a lot of hard work over the years to pave the way for Finnish metal, and luckily they have been able to reap the crops they’ve themselves sowed. The band commands a lot of respect, that much is at least true, as was seen today here at Ilosaarirock. (lisää…)

A perfect symphony: Dj Shadow

19.7.2010

American wonder Dj Shadow did what the Ilosaarirock brieflet promised. This DJ wizard turned the YleX- tent into a one big dancesite as the venue’s last act. Not often the security needs to close the YleX- tent but in this sunday evening just too many people tried to squeez in to see the Dj. Therefore the party continued outside the tent and one can only wonder how many people where present to witness the Dj Shadow experience.

Stepa took over the Rento Stage

18.7.2010

Stepa, Sodankylä’s gift to Finnish rap, provided the framework for entertaining Sunday evening on the Rento Stage. The artiste himself seemed as good-humoured as his lyrics, and the mellow double-act was completed by the guest starring Are. At the beginning of the show the speedy crowd rush filled the immediate surroundings of the stage and all in all, the beach was nicely packed with people. (lisää…)

Rise and Fall: Our pit is going around in circles

18.7.2010

At Sue-stage the crowd is waiting for something in complete silence; the Belgian punk-metal group Rise and Fall is on the stage with their backs turned to the crowd and then: explosion! Raw energy streams from the stage to audience and a total devastation overwhelms the area, rocking the earth and eardrums. (lisää…)

Queen Jenni’s enchantment

18.7.2010

Is Jenni Vartiainen Ilosaarirock’s main act? Judging by the mass of crowd that seemed to extend right back to main gates of the area, the answer would be yes. The queen of the evening appeared from behind a screen of smoke, dressed in a flamenco-styled outfit, smiling widely.

Impressive and sweaty

18.7.2010

Sweat. Evidence either of a warm venue or a genuine gig. In Biffy Clyro’s case at the YleX- stage it was the both. One of the most anticipated shows in this year’s Ilosaarirock met the expectations. Quality was guranteed.

A Nestor-long breath

18.7.2010

Nestor, a local newcomer, who performed at the Truck Stage was something completely different to Insomnium, who just previously had finished at YleX-stage. And not in a bad way at all. (lisää…)

Insomnium’s perfect healing

18.7.2010

If everything in the world would be done in the same perfection as Insomnium’s music the world would be a better place. The slightly worn-down festival crowd were swept to a new rising as Insomnium shook the ground in the YleX- tent.
