Blackfield (UK/ISR)

A much-anticipated reunion at Ilosaarirock Festival

When Porcupine Tree's frontman Steven Wilson made public the joint project between him and Aviv Geffen, a multi-talented musician from Israel, the news caused a lot of excitement in the music scene. Just the thought of Geffen, who is a wildly popular figure in his home country, and Wilson doing something together sounded almost like a marriage made in heaven. Initially, Wilson and Geffen just planned to release an EP, but in the studio, one chord led to another, and a full-length album was soon in the oven.

The album Blackfield, released in 2003, is beautiful – exquisite – pop music with tunes that combine in perfect harmony the very diverse cultural backgrounds of its two fathers. This is music to lift your lighter up to, or to shed a secret tear if you so wish. The extremely well received album was followed in 2007 with Blackfield II, which was, on every level, just as strong as its predecessor.

The Ilosaarirock Festival gig is the Finnish leg of Blackfield's tour with the new album Welcome to My DNA. Both the audience and the band still remember Porcupine Tree's first visit to Finland at Ilosaarirock Festival 2007 as one of the best shows anywhere ever, and we are not going to be satisfied with anything less with Blackfield, are we?
