For the blissfully somber children of men
Adding a local spice to the Ilosaarirock anniversary mix is the alternative rock quartet Holik, proudly flying the flag of the Joensuu rock tradition. The current line-up has played together since 2007. After a few self-released EPs, their first full-length album, Get This Feeling, saw daylight in the late 2010. Holik's nihilistic world view combines lyrics pondering upon life's flipsides to wayward melodies and riff-heavy fun and games. However, all this is always presented with a little twinkle in the (black) eye.
If a bunch of life-style flower folk decided to put up a happiness fair at Joensuu Arena, it's quite likely that somewhere in the dark back corner we would find these rough cut rockers and their saturnine stand. That'd be the place for cracking jokes about the things the saner-than-average part of the population probably hadn’t yet grasped as funny. The moral of the story? Life never gets so bad that humor should be put aside.
Although Holik's been around a while already, their story is really only beginning. The band itself has fervently waited to perform at Ilosaarirock Festival for the first time, and now they're finally here bringing their music to the awareness of the larger public. As Tony from the legendary sitcom Men Behaving Badly gushed, it's exciting! We couldn't agree more.
