Medeia

Alternative metal for the bad guys

Medeia plays malicious music. Their alternative metal sounds very aggressive, and the listening experience resembles a group fight with a bunch of wrestlers who have lost their peace of mind: it's reckless, massive and completely unstoppable. Listening to an entire album leaves you breathless, not to mention the effect of a full gig. Even when observed internationally, Medeia is truly a unique metal group. It doesn’t repeat clichés or overreach to appear heavy and intimidating. Medeia has no need to falsely put up the bad act, it’s genuinely music for bad guys.

One can expect great things from Medeia. The band released only their third album this spring, but already they've performed with such greats as Ozzy Osbourne, Entombed, The Dillinger Escape Plan and Raised Fist. They will undoubtedly have their own chapter in the history of Finnish metal music, but how widely that chapter will be known is harder to predict. Such a hard-edged band can either grow to be a vast phenomenon, or alternatively, stick to the marginal forever due to the same uncompromising attitude. What can be certain, though, is that Medeia's gig will feature the best pit of this year's Ilosaarirock Festival.
