The old stagers of electronic music
Uusi Fantasia is a three-piece collective, pioneer band and supergroup of Finnish electronic music. They escape traditional genre divisions and open-mindedly experiment with disco, electro, house, folk, rock, pop and jazz making their own, individual sound. Street Cobra a.k.a. Perttu Mäkelä, Kroko-Roc a.k.a. Mikko Viljakainen and Ercola a.k.a. Veikka Erkola are a part of so many projects that Uusi Fantasia, according to themselves, is a logistic disaster. Indeed, there is a six year gap between their first and second albums Top Ten and Heimo. But now they are back, bringing with them Liian myöhään (Too Late), the catchiest hit song in years!
It is perfectly clear that Uusi Fantasia make music without any constraints, with their own terms and with whomever they feel like. Which is only great. Their charm isn't restricted inside the borders of Finland: Norwegian Eirik Bøe, known from the pop duo Kings of Convenience, features on Heimo bringing some international flavor in the album that has taken Uusi Fantasia touring across the world. As there are 23 guest stars on Heimo, it is interesting to see which ones Uusi Fantasia will bring along in Ilosaarirock. But one thing is for certain: whatever the line-up is, you definitely want to be in the audience. It is going to be the most psychedelic experience in the entire festival. We recommend that you take Uusi Fantasia the same way they themselves do – without any prejudice whatsoever.
