Riikka from Tampere has dressed in a colorful attire. For her, colors symbolize joy and happiness. The cloth rainbow has been picked up from second-hand shops and around the world.
Marja from Turku and Ihva from Joensuu. The ladys were in a hurry and didn’t have time to provide more information on the outfits.
Meeri has come to the festival from Savonlinna. Meeri says that she chose the fire-engine red shoes, because they’re great for bouncing. And the cow purse is just so cool, you can’t rock without it.
King Kong of Ilosaari? Are barrels about to fly? The gentleman named Brad Pitt is Batman has become his animal alter ego. Brad Pitt is Batman comes to Ilosaarirock from the wide open spaces of Ostrobothnia, Western Finland. He shamelessly admits to wearing the costume just to get attention. The mask also shields from sunstroke and makes it easier for friends to spot him in a crowd.
Jari from Helsinki wanted to be photographed with a volunteer worker. The costume is sewn by a friend from fabric that Jari chose. It also doubles as a stage costume for the trio “Two for the price of one”. The downside of the costume is its tendency to attract men. Drawn to it like bees to honey, they are often overcome by their urge to pinch his butt. The upside is all the smiling people he sees. Although he’s not sure if they’re smiling with him or at him.
Tuomo and his friend Ville hail from Kotka. Ville has the traditional “T-shirt and cargo shorts” festival uniform. Tuomo, on the other hand, got his festival attire from a store in the Helsinki region, just for Ilosaari. The bright colors give Tuomo that festival feeling. But the most important reason for the costume is that wearing it, he’s guaranteed to get some. Tuomo carries with him a set of rubbers for that inevitable moment.
Dressed in animal costumes, this bachelorette party (hen night for all you Brits) is for Iita, who’s studying to become a veterinary nurse. The animal party has travelled to Joensuu from Konnevesi. Pink afros demand attention and you can’ t get lost in the crowd. That’s the reason why Matta, Maikku, Kikka, Katja and Ansku chose these bright wigs. They are rather hot, but the women didn’t seem to mind that, as long as there was cold cider available from the beer tents.
Uppo-Nalle and Stitch, AKA Mandi and Essi jumped from a Disney® movie. The reasoning for the costumes is manyfold: they uplift the surrounding mood, and create a bounce-friendly atmosphere. The costumes were found in a a friend’s closet. Uppo-Nalle says that the costumes are also great to sleep in, combining festival outfits and sleeping bags. The girls also get lots of spontaneous hugs from their fellow festivalgoers.
