There was a small but enthusiastic crowd for the last act on Sue Stage, with a nucleus of diehard fans cheering when Red Sparowes took to the stage.
When the is a band is another project for guys who otherwise play in ISIS, Neurosis, Melvins and Tool, you know you’re in for a treat. And the Red Sparowes didn’t fail, painting a psychedelic soundscape of excuisite detail at Sue Stage. Instrumental bands have become something of an oddity at festivals. Luckily Ilosaari has always played to its own tune, which is why we get to see and hear stuff like this.

The background video started with glimpses from old anti-Communism propaganda films. Which was apt, since in the red glow of the stage light, the band created a very communal feeling in the tent, with more and more people joining the audience as the gig progressed.
With the setting sun painting the treetops orange, the performance left you feeling very serene. Bring the boys back next anniversary!
