Tundramatiks
In 2006, Tundramatiks released their debut album Kyy pivossa, and made the Rekka Stage at Ilosaarirock Festival go nuts the next summer. In 2012, Tundramatiks released their long-gestated second album Roinan rodeo, and apparently the Rekka Stage is going wild again this summer. Those who know history are ever so glad to repeat it.
Tundramatiks is a difficult band to describe. It changes its colour like a chameleon and its shape like a lizard detaching its tail. The music's not that complicated – it's just that the trio loves to pull the rug from under their audience on the least expected moment. Tundramatiks is fuelled by Slavic melancholy, intoxicated mayhem-making, anxiety and weight of the world on their shoulders, and when they are at their most efficient, they can distil all of the above into a compact three-minute song. Lights and shadows of life pass by in confused flicker as Tundramatiks rides on.
