About Ilosaarirock Festival

Ilosaarirock Festival is an outdoor festival founded in 1971. There is no age limit to the festival, and the event takes place at Laulurinne in Joensuu (street address: Linnunlahdentie 3) at a lakeside close to the city centre. Ilosaarirock Festival is known for sunshine, the beautifully green festival area, fantastic atmosphere, smiling volunteers and the line-up, always chosen with taste and featuring the best acts representing various genres.

During the greatest weekend of the summer, the five stages host more than 60 artists, but the area also features film screenings, ping-pong games and DJ sets. The large camping sites and parking areas are located right next to the festival area, and the distance between your tent and the stages can be just a few metres. Ilosaarirock Festival focuses on food, drinks and relaxation. Our most important values are volunteering, environmental protection and our love for live music. A share of the profits goes to supporting local bands and artists.

Ilosaarirock Festival is a three-day weekend that begins on Friday night with separately sold Sulo and Töminä clubs. The two-day festival ticket is for Saturday and Sunday, when a huge variety of events fills up the entire festival area.

With its 50,000+ annual guests, Ilosaarirock Festival is one of the largest festivals in Finland. The event is organised by Joensuu Pop Musicians' Association, a non-profit association founded on the idea of supporting live music.

Entering the Festival Site

This year, there is only one gate (Main Gate) to the festival site. There are cloakrooms, toilets and water taps available right after the gate before the security check. This area opens to festival guests one hour before the actual festival area. If you stay in Ravileirintä Camping, you can enter the festival site through a dedicated Ravileirintä Camping gate. See the locations of the gates on the festival site map.

Festival area opening hours

The Main Gate to festival area is open throughout the festival weekend, that is, on Saturday and Sunday from 12am onwards. On Friday July 17, the Töminä Club and the Sulo Club entrance is also through the Main Gate from 7.30pm onwards.

After the final performer of the evening the entire festival area will be closed down.

Mobile phone recharging points are available in Ilosaari Lounge and near the information desks in the camping sites. Merchandise stalls sell portable battery chargers. Or why not visit the stall of the Ilmastotori (Climate Square) Project and charge your phone by pedalling a bike?

Information desks and lost&found

The Ilosaarirock Festival information desks help the festival guests in all questions and queries about the festival. The information desks are located near the Main Gate and at the Ravileirintä and Niittyleirintä camping sites. They are open throughout the weekend.

During the festival weekend, any lost property will be taken to the information desks. After the festival from Monday 12 noon onwards, all lost property will be taken care of by North Carelian Lost and Found Office: www.pklp.fi.

Food and clothing stalls & Ilosaarirock Festival merchandise

The festival area features food stalls to serve every taste as well as vendors selling clothes, jewellery, novelty items and all that must-have festival gear.

The official Ilosaarirock Festival merchandise (t-shirts, hoodies, bags, etc) are sold by Longplay Music.

Licenced bar areas

There are six licenced bar areas in the Ilosaarirock Festival area. The age limit for all licenced bar areas is 18. Be prepared to prove your age by always keeping an official identification document with you (a photo ID card, a passport, or a driving licence).

You cannot take alcohol drinks out of the licenced bar areas.

Accessibility

The guiding principle of the Ilosaarirock Festival arrangements is that everyone should feel welcome at our festival.

The Ilosaarirock Festival site is a park with mostly sandy roads, and the area is more or less flat except for the uphill to the Main Tent area. Near the festival area, there is a parking area with a limited number of disabled parking spaces. To park your car here, you need a designated disabled parking permit.

Assistants of disabled people do not need a ticket to access the festival area. Assistants get their wristbands at the ticket changing points at the Main Gate and the Joensuu Marketplace.

There are viewing platforms near the mixing desks of the Main Stage and the Main Tent. Toilets with wheelchair access are located near the viewing platforms and in toilet areas.
