The Finnish rap veteran Notkea Rotta was bored with his rat nose and the rest of his trademark roleplay. He decided to start a new band, a power trio called Atomirotta. Rotta had already before collaborated with the producer J. Pajulaakso but the guitar ace Rane Raitsikka was a new acquaintance. In the 1980s, Raitsikka first played raw punk in Lama and then took up a more rock-oriented approach in Smack. After Smack disbanded, Raitsikka moved to the United States to interview NHL stars and play music together with the members of such bands as the Foo Fighters and Guns N' Roses. Now, 20 years later, Raitsikka is back and he is in better form than ever.
Even if Atomirotta is mostly about rock and rap, it's still difficult to label the band into one genre. Their summer hit of 2014 Aurinkoon is a laid-back pop tune, the following single Hima taas is a combination of wistful guitar melodies and a steady groove. The band's debut album I proves that the trio is also at home with funk, blues and reggae. Atomirotta, literally the Atom Rat, is a musical fusion of many worlds.
