The extent of Bastille's popularity is insane. The British band’s debut album has sold 8 million copies worldwide, and it rose directly to the top of the UK and to the top ten of the US chart in the first week after its release. Their biggest hit Pompeii has been listened to over 400 million times on Spotify and YouTube, and the band has played at pretty much all of the important music festivals. They have also managed to collect an impressive list of awards under their name. And yes, all of this just with one album.
The positive, passionate pop rock songs of Bastille are a prototype of band music in the 2010s. The band, led by singer Dan Smith, disregards the artificial boundaries of music and mixes different genres from dance music to guitar rock. A fine example of this is the single Of the Night, which is a mash-up of the 90’s dance classics Rhythm of the Night and Rhythm is a Dancer. This shameless hit was eagerly adopted by the radio stations in Finland. Live Bastille is simply enchanting, tears of joy and bursts of exhilarated laughter are to be expected.
Currently Bastille is working on their second album to follow the debut Bad Blood. At Ilosaarirock Festival you will see a band that’s bigger than ever, and they will climb to the stage armed with a bunch of new songs. This gig will be huge. Come early, the front row will fill up quickly!
