Placebo is finally coming to Finland! One of the biggest names in alternative rock, the British band was last on tour in Finland six years ago so it is about time fans of the band have the opportunity to enjoy their tortuously beautiful rock hits live. And hits they have, after 11 million records sold and nearly 20 years headlining festivals.
Fronted by Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal, Placebo is celebrating their 20th anniversary next year. The band began the celebrations by releasing their albums in Spotify this February. Already in the first week, the songs were played tens of millions of times, which is proof of the passionate nature of their fans. Placebo has provoked strong emotions since the beginning. Their androgynous image, songs that combine glam and alternative rock as well as lyrics referring to drugs and LGTB themes have made people both love and hate them. Placebo won't leave you cold.
Since their debut, Placebo has acted as a counter force for Brit pop. Their gloomy and nihilistic sound stinks of the back doors of sweaty nightclubs and forbidden sex. On top of the gloom, the appealingly catchy melodies sung by Molko in his unique voice have given rise to a bunch of imitators. Placebo's albums are meticulously thought out and ambitious ensembles which combine sadness with an in-your-face attitude.
In the spring, Placebo will tour Britain with their new drummer, Matt Lunn. The majority of the venues in the long tour have been sold-out in advance. The band will spend the summer performing the biggest festivals. At the end of their tour, on Saturday 18th of July, Placebo will take over the Main Stage at Ilosaarirock Festival. I wouldn't miss this if I were you!
