British singer-songwriter Tom Odell has released only one album so far, but his popularity has already gone through the roof. The debut, Long Way Down, went to No. 1 in the British charts, and at the Brit Awards, Odell ran away with the Critics' Choice Award – a nomination previously given to Adele and Florence and the Machine, among others. Odell's single Another Love has been played a whopping 55 million times on YouTube, and the song has become a massive hit also beyond the borders of the United Kingdom.
Odell, born in 1990, can be described as a classic case of singer-songwriterism. His piano-driven songs are full of soul and heart-wrenching emotion. Odell's delicate interpretation brings to mind Jeff Buckley, and when it comes to passion, the man could in line for the next James Bond theme song. Lily Allen, who signed Odell to her record label, has compared his stage presence to that of young David Bowie. Live, Odell's band indeed rises to an entirely new level compared to the airy minimalism of his records.
Tom Odell's first performance in Finland is not to be missed as only the sky seems to be the limit to this incredibly talented young man. Highly recommended to all friends of heady emotions and larger-than-life pop music.
