Lineup complete!
The lineup for the 2023 edition of Ilosaarirock Festival is complete! Finnish superstars from ALMA to Käärijä and Paperi T to Ursus Factory add the final touches to the 2023 festival programme. Sounds like summer’s best weekend if you ask us!
The final acts confirmed for the 2023 edition of Ilosaarirock are magnificent singer-songwriters ALMA and Maija Vilkkumaa, metal sensation Bloodred Hourglass, Finnish rap & hip hop names Paperi T, Etta, jambo and Jami Faltin, Finland’s Eurovision representative Käärijä, delightful pop bands KUUMAA and Younghearted, Finnish R&B favorite Karri Koira, electronic and heavy music combining group Cyan Kicks, blissful live acts Ursus Factory and Vesterinen Yhtyeineen, delicious electrodance serving Detalji as well as Finland’s brightest and greatest jazz musician Linda Fredriksson Juniper.
- This last lineup announcement really embodies Ilosaarirock’s spirit. You want that powerful, blazing metal, we’ve got it. Delicious pop hits are what you’re after? We’ve got you. You’d love a bit of smooth jazz? Oh, we’ve got you! All that really matters to us is that the music’s good, and we definitely won’t say no to some goosebumps and groove, describes our promoter Panu.
Along with the sixteen names added to the lineup today, Ilosaarirock 2023 will see performances by The Prodigy (UK), Years & Years (UK), Ava Max (US), Apulanta, Benson Boone (US), Carpenter Brut (FR), Dylan (UK), Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes (UK), Gettomasa, Jacob Banks (UK), JVG, Sleep Token (UK), Vesala, VV and dozens of others.
Previously added to the lineup, pop star Nelli Matula has had to cancel all her upcoming shows, including her performance at Ilosaarirock. 28th Feb 2023
Pop phenomenon Ava Max and enigmatic British collective Sleep Token to Ilosaarirock!
Albanian-American pop sensation Ava Max (US) and genre non-conforming, mysterious British group Sleep Token (UK) will perform at Ilosaarirock in July! Following the line-up announcement, Ilosaarirock’s daily programme is now out and all festival ticket types are available for purchase.
Ava Max made her commercial breakthrough back in 2018 with her comically and cosmically huge international hit single Sweet but Psycho, which shot straight to the top of the charts in more than 20 countries. The gifted singer makes music, where dance-ready melodies go hand in hand with soul crushing lyricism about life, love and what it means to be a woman in the 21st century. The vibe is pure euphoric dance pop, with songs dressed in rich neon colors and dipped in sugar, spice and everything nice.
Nowadays, Ava Max is one of the most listened to artists in the world. Drawing musical and visual comparisons to the likes of Lady Gaga, Bebe Rexha and Dua Lipa, Ava Max is the perfect, multicolored pop diva, whose dance anthems you won’t wanna miss at Ilosaarirock.
British collective Sleep Token is a true riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma. Sonically, the group is a beautiful mixture of rock, metal, and pop, all bound together by an almost ritualistic feel and ambience that is characteristic of Sleep Token’s recordings and especially their live shows. The group’s dream-like lyrics, inspired by age-old myths from all around the world, transport you to a time and place where Sleep Token feel weirdly and deeply familiar, despite their enigmatic anonymity.
Though the anonymity adds a whole new dimension to the experience of listening to their music, it is clear from how Sleep Token play that it is, in fact, all about the music – and only the music. In their own words, the group doesn’t place any value on who they are, but instead on what they make.
– This line-up announcement sort of perfectly sums up what Ilosaarirock is all about. On one hand, we’ve got your global chart-topping pop diva, and on the other, an enigmatic, genre-bending collective, all ready to put on a great show for all festival goers. We’ve got something for everyone, grins our promoter Panu.
Following today’s line-up announcement, Ilosaarirock’s daily programme is now out and all festival ticket types from three-day tickets to two-day and one-day tickets are now available for purchase. Snag yours here or straight via our official ticketing partners Tiketti and Lippu.fi.
Along with Ava Max and Sleep Token, the 2023 edition of Ilosaarirock will see performances by The Prodigy (UK), Years & Years (UK), Benson Boone (US), Carpenter Brut (FR), Dylan (UK), Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes (UK), Jacob Banks (UK), JVG, Stam1na, Vesala, VV and dozens of others!
More line-up announcements will be made during early spring. All in all, more than 60 bands and artists will take the stage at Ilosaarirock 2023. Stay tuned!

Ilosaarirock Festival will not take place in the summer of 2020
So, this is what it has come to. We are hugely sorry to announce that, due to the current situation with the coronavirus (COVID-19), Ilosaarirock Festival will not take place in the summer of 2020. Based on government guidelines and what we feel is the only right thing to do, we have had to take the heartbreaking decision to postpone the festival until July 2021. Tickets that have already been purchased will be valid for the 2021 festival. You also have the option to return your ticket and get a full refund, excluding any service charges.

Your health and safety is of the utmost importance to us and we are not prepared to jeopardise your well-being under any circumstances. It has become clear that there are currently too many health risks involved in organising big events, such as Ilosaarirock.
Having to cancel what is widely known as ‘the best weekend of the summer’ is something we never thought we would have to do. In addition to our crew and customers, this decision affects the artists, our partners, subcontractors and hundreds of employees who work hard for months on end to make this festival happen. It goes without saying that this has been a huge blow to us all.
We kindly encourage you to support the people whose livelihoods are at risk because of the coronavirus restrictions. There are many ways to do this, such as buying tickets for virtual concerts or ordering takeaway food from your local restaurant. As we live through this unprecedented crisis, every little helps.
You can support the Ilosaarirock Festival by holding on to your existing ticket or by purchasing an UUTEEN NOUSUUN (‘we’ll get through this’) support ticket for 2021.
Next year, we will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Ilosaarirock and have decided to draw strength from this wretched situation and pour all our energies into organising the best festival ever! This unforgettable birthday bash will take place in Joensuu from the 16th to the 18th of July, 2021.
Tickets that have already been purchased for 2020 will be valid for the 2021 festival as they are. Therefore, if you are planning to join the party next year, you do not need to do anything – simply hold on to your ticket.

French Alcest is one of the developers and important artists of blackgaze, a combination of black metal and shoegaze. Their atmospheric music is also called post metal. In the early years Alcest played primitive black metal but soon the music became the gigantic symphony of distorted sounds we know today. Alcest has worked with Sigur Rós and toured with Anathema and is known by their intensive live shows.
Along Alcest Finnish power metal phenomena Beast in Black, thrash metal group Lost Society and punk rock band Huora brings more heavy guitars to the Ilosaarirock lineup. The program is completed by hip hop acts Etta, F, Adikia and Mouhous, producer legend Jori Sjöroos, folkpop duo Eva + Manu, indierock bands Pasa and Radio Supernova, talented urban singer Jesse Markin and modern pop artists Ruma and Aida.
As over 60 bands aren’t enough, we also present international standup comedians Joe Sutherland and Bobby Mair. British Joe Sutherland is known by his razor-sharp comedy about masculinity and gender. Canadian Bobby Mair has won over the critical London standup audience and is now ready to conquer Finland.

Over 20 new artists!
New names include Sunrise Avenue, Alma, Jess Glynne, Architects, Perturbator, MONO and Pale Waves. Now you can purchase all the ticket types from day tickets to Premium tickets.
The biggest rock band from Finland, Sunrise Avenue, is coming to Ilosaarirock Festival for the first time ever! The hugely popular combo regularly perform at sold-out stadium venues across Europe, but are rarely seen playing in Finland. The Ilosaarirock gig is the only festival show Sunrise Avenue will perform in Finland during summer 2019. Another expected visitor is Finland’s hottest export since the Nokia phone, aka Alma. The international pop sensation, known for her explosive hits Karma, Dye My Hair and Chasing Highs, will bring her unapologetic live show to Joensuu, just a couple of months after the release of her debut album.
Grammy-awarded singer-songwriter Jess Glynne has released only two albums during her years in the spotlight but has already achieved seven No. 1 singles in the British charts - more than any other female artist in history. Glynne mixes classic soul with catchy pop melodies and delivers songs with her incredible voice.
Architects, the eminent British metalcore combo, are finally coming to Finland after a painstakingly long wait. Winners of the Best British Live Act Award, Architects play their raspingly furious music with mathematical precision. Their eighth album Holy Hell, released in 2018, shot up the charts like a bullet, and was chosen as the album of the year by many heavy metal critics.
Cheat Codes are comprised of three talented DJs from Los Angeles, who are on a journey to stardom after wowing crowds with one EDM hit after another. Cheat Codes released their debut single in 2015 and have been moving people on dance floors ever since.
Synthwave pioneer Perturbator went on to create a whole new genre of music that draws its inspiration from cyberpunk, 80s video games and science fiction. His music transports listeners to a Blade Runner-like world and dance floors at sold-out gigs are heaving with a curious mixture of morose metal heads, electro-industrially-minded dance enthusiasts and cyborged computer nerds.
Hailing from Manchester, the Mecca of modern indie music, Pale Waves released their debut album, My Mind Makes Noises, in September 2018 and instantly caused a stir in the global music scene. This summer they are bringing their world tour to Finland for the first time, and visitors to Ilosaarirock will get a taste of Pale Waves and their soul-soothing melodies.
For decades, MONO has been at the forefront of the post-rock scene and enjoyed the unconditional appreciation of both critics and fans. In 2019 MONO are celebrating their 20th anniversary, and have just released their 10th album Nowhere Now Here. The new album is even more self-assured and ambitious than its predecessors and can be described as a journey in experimentation and texture.
New Finnish acts include special shows by singer-songwriter Samuli Putro and hard rockers Viikate and JVG, Ellips, Pariisin Kevät, Pää Kii, Swallow the Sun, Henrik!, J. Karjalainen, Lxandra, Olavi Uusivirta, Ricky-Tick Big Band & Julkinen Sana, Gasellit, Jukka Nousiainen, Kynnet, Pauliina Kokkonen, SANNI and Stam1na.
More news coming soon!

First artists announced
First part of the 2019 line-up includes DJ Snake, Rae Sremmurd, Shame, Ville Valo & Agents, Vesala, Kingston Wall and Anna Puu.
DJ Snake is a French superstar DJ who mixes hip hop and electronic music in a trademark visionary style. One of the most popular producers and composers in the world, he belongs to the global electro-elite. He burst onto the international scene with the mega hit ‘Lean On’ that was produced together with Major Lazer and MØ. ‘Lean On’ subsequently became the most streamed song on Spotify, ever.
Rae Sremmurd shot to number one in the charts in the US, and across the globe, with their hit single ‘Black Beatles’ featuring Gucci Mane. Each of their three albums boast platinum-awarded singles such as ‘Swang’, ‘Powerglide’ and ‘No Type’. With such a whopping setlist, a Rae Sremmurd show is bound to be pure dynamite.
When Shame released their debut album in 2018, they took the alternative rock scene by storm and were labelled ‘Britain’s most exciting new band’ by the Guardian. Hailing from London, Shame is a volatile combination of quintessential British punk rock and scrappy post punk that brings Killing Joke and The Fall to mind.
Ville Valo, who shot to fame as the lead vocalist of internationally renowned rock band, HIM, has teamed up with Agents, a legendary Finnish band from the late 70s. Ville Valo & Agents have recorded an album full of hits and previously unsung pieces written by the late Rauli ‘Badding’ Somerjoki. The album has turned out to be one of the most talked about musical events of the year, long before its release.
Vesala is a highly talented artist with a rare gift of being able to combine entertaining pop rock with intelligent and thought-provoking lyrics. Her tunes, which are laced with electronic elements, are catchy and fun but could never be described as trivial – there is always meaning to be found in these well-crafted songs.
Kingston Wall by JJylli, Kuoppis & VHB is a ressurrection of the legendary Finnish prog band Kingston Wall with the help of the hottest trio from the Finnish prog rock scene – Von Hertzen Brothers.
Anna Puu is known for her exceptionally bright and radiant stage presence. With this masterstroke of a new album, she has created a collection of future pop classics and is primed to blow away festival audiences across the country.

Jack White to Ilosaarirock Festival!
In July all you music fans out there are in for one gigantic treat as one of the World's true rock and roll superstars, Jack White, finally arrives to Finland! Jack White has announced his first tour in almost four years and we are one of the lucky ones to experience the show in Europe.
12 Grammys, 33 Grammy nominations, a Bond theme song, numerous number one hits, as well as being listed amongst the best guitarists in the word time and time again and a sports-anthem known to all – YES, Jack White undoubtedly is truly one of the greatest!
Jack White got his big breakthrough back in 2001 when The White Stripes released their debut album White Blood Cells. That album blew the garage rock fans away and put the band immediately in the music scene spotlight. The band, though, didn't let the hype slow them down. On the contrary, The White Stripes then released Seven Nation Army, a song known to every sports fan. And the legend was born.
After The White Stripes, Jack White has been prolific, to say the least. He has made music with bands such as The Racounters and Dead Weather and released two solo albums which have both climbed to the top of the Billboard chart. The long-awaited third solo album will be released in March 2018. Lucky for us, because that is why he has set his wagon wheels rolling towards the biggest festival stages around the world.
Jack White is a brilliantly original artist who does not bow down to any trends. On the contrary, he never ceases to amaze us with whatever he decides to do. At the core of his musical manifestation are the very basic ingredients of rock n' roll which he magnificently spices up with pinches of country and blues in order to stir his original cocktail. What makes his music so special are the catchy melodies combined with his signature hefty distortion riffs and, more importantly, his passionate playing and brute stage presence.
As Jack White chooses his appearances carefully, every live show is an event itself. During his past solo tours, White has also pampered his audiences with some of the biggest hits he has made with his different bands. So buckle up, this is – without a doubt – going to be THE rock experience of 2018!
