Zeal & Ardor

Zeal & Ardor is an avant-garde group that combines black metal with negro spirituals, and this might be the most eccentric, and possibly the most genius thing that has happened to music in a good while. The band released their debut album Devil Is Fine last year, and critics and music fans alike were left breathless. Everyone seemed to have the same question in mind: “What the hell did I just listen to?"

Zeal & Ardor started as a one-man project of Swiss-American Manuel Gagneux. According to Gagneux, he started to wonder what type of music rebellious slaves would have made had their influence been bands such as Burzum and Darkthrone. The end result is Devil Is Fine – an odd mixture of the dramatic riffs of death metal, aspects of blues and gospel, and a bunch of other ingredients, from Gregorian chant to dubstep.

Since the relase of the album, Zeal & Ardor expanded into a group who have become known for their very intense gigs. We wholeheartedly recommend getting to know this band, you have never heard anything like it!
