Dermot Kennedy, the 25-year-old Irish musician set to reimagine the singer-songwriter tradition of the Emerald Isle, creates ambitious music that is a careful combination of his stunning voice, poignant story-telling and infectious melodies. The public fell in love with Kennedy’s 2017 debut EP Doves and Ravens, after which his songs have been streamed more than 500 million times.
Dermot Kennedy started playing the guitar at the age of 11. His music, with its foundations in the folksy acoustic troubadour tradition, is driven by contemporary production, often using electronic elements and hypnotic percussion loops. It comes as no surprise then, that the producer behind Kennedy is Mike Dean, who has previously worked with the likes of Kanye West and Travis Scott. Kennedy’s recordings are awesome – there’s no doubt about it – but his true talents really get showcased at his gigs. The man has quickly made a name for himself as a truly gifted performer full of fervor, while his tours are being sold out well in advance.
