No one can dispute the fact that JVG is one of the most popular bands in the history of Finnish music. Ever. Full stop. Celebrating their 10th anniversary in 2019, the rap duo from Helsinki have achieved pretty much everything there is to achieve in a country this size.
JVG’s songs and lyrics are something that everyone knows by heart, whether it be Popkorni, Häissä or Älä jätä roikkuu. These dudes have countless amounts of platinum records, they have won all the music awards going and their cheeky faces adorn anything from socks to souvenirs. One of their hit pieces Tarkenee is the first Finnish language song ever to be featured in an NHL 19 ice hockey video game, giving it a huge global listener base.
However, what might be the most impressive thing about JVG is the way Jare and VilleGalle connect with their audience time and again: their stage presence is incredibly charismatic, dynamic and full of surprises. When JVG gets to cast their spell over Ilosaarirock this July, even the most strait-laced members of the audience will find themselves jumping, shouting and singing in unison with tens of thousands of others.
