Risto, a band lead by the highly acclaimed musician Risto Ylihärsilä, unquestionably belongs in the big league of alternative music in Finland. Risto has been going since the early 2000s, when they secured the status of number one indie band with their album Aurinko aurinko plaa plaa plaa that was followed by a series of frenzied live performances.
In 2014 Risto released a sci-fi record titled II, which was proclaimed an instant classic by both pundits and lovers of non-mainstream music. The estranged soundscape combined with profound storytelling was unlike anything that had been recorded previously.
Risto's music is the love child born out of an unholy union between the Commodore 64 computer and the distortion pedal: it is a delightful mixture of indie rock, synth disco, passion and bondage. All of this is capped off by the monotone voice of Risto Ylihärsilä, churning out painfully sharp observations of the dark side of humanity.
