Stam1na is one of the best metal bands to come out of Finland, a country in which they are widely popular. Unlike many of their peers, Stam1na have continued writing their lyrics in Finnish, which might explain why they are not quite so well-known abroad. However, all is not lost in translation – Stam1na have a growing fan base across Europe and further afield. The band has swayed audiences with hugely impressive live performances and a discography to match their more illustrious rivals. Time will tell if Stam1na are on their way to conquering the world but ask anyone who knows the band and they will tell you that they have all the elements required to thrive.
Stam1na’s eighth album, Taival, released in 2018, won the award for the best Finnish metal album of the year. The album contains a selection of the band’s most personal, bleak and ambitious songs to date. The riffs are fast and furious, and the choruses reach astonishing heights. In summer 2019, Ilosaarirock will get to witness Stam1na’s destructive genius in action. Strap yourself in because we’re going for a ride!
