To be exact, Maroons is a project band. What makes them stand above the rest is, however, that they are genuinely exciting, and that in more than one respect only. The renowned Quannum Projects collective, where many of the most highly respected rap characters work together under variable pseudonyms, is also behind Maroons' line-up: there is the genius producer Chief Excel, better known for Blackalicious, and MC Lateef the Truth Speaker of Latyrx fame. These two gentlemen have just released the album Ambush, which is one of the most thrilling rap records for many years. If you think you don't like rap, you've probably just got the wrong idea of the entire genre. Instead of the brainless mush that goes under the title rap on MTV, Maroons is all about groovy beat, graceful flow and insightful lyrics. Embrace yourself for a totally mind-blowing rap experience!
