Amon Tobin is one of the most important names in today's electronic music. Originally Brazilian, he moved to United Kingdom in the mid-1990s, and already his first album Adventures in Foam (back then Tobin used the name Cujo) inspired the reputable record company Ninja Tune to sign him up. So far Amon Tobin has made four critically acclaimed albums to Ninja Tune, and his 2002 single Verbal was a minor hit also in Finland.
Tobin's recipe for success is his ability to marry jazz and dance rhythms to witty references from the lesser-travelled paths of popular music. From drum 'n' bass and ambient, his music has grown into something more unpredictable, escaping easy definitions. These tunes can at the same time be dark and moody and yet with their sheer irresistible anarchy fill the dance floor with smiling people.
Tobin has also tried his hand on making music for computer games: his latest release is the soundtrack for the game Splinter Cell Chaos Theory. If you like deep rhythms and unique sounds and are not afraid of some lunacy too, come and join Amon Tobin’s audience in Ilosaarirock!
