Don Johnson Big Band is one of those bands that exist somewhere far away and high above from the shackles of musical genres. The material of this band of four has got influences from hip hop, jazz, ambient – just name it and they've got it.
In spite of their somewhat dubious name, Don Johnson Big Band broke into the Finnish national consciousness with such a force and doggedness that looking back, it seems downright unbelievable. They had no record deal or a single penny to spend on advertisements, yet they managed to sell shitloads of their debut album Support Da Microphones (2000). What made this possible was their amazingly energetic live performances. The word got around and soon they started to sell out whichever venue they chose to go to. The results of the band's underground work became evident for all in 2003, when they released their second album Breaking Daylight and sold platinum.
It has become a habit for Don Johnson Big Band to have friends around whenever they play. One of the usual guests is Emma Salokoski, the high priestess of Finnish soul. Don Johnson Big Band joins together the fans of several music styles and gives them all a treat with their live show that never lets you down.
