Katla is Joensuu's finest contribution to heavy music with Finnish lyrics. It's not easy to find any appropriate comparisons to their dark noise, so independent and original is Katla's touch, but there are influences from 1980's goth metal as well as from more modern sources. The frontman and the soul of the band is the vocalist Tomi Räsänen, whose other pastimes include leading his own record company Vapauslevyt (also known as the releaser of the bands Pavians and Suot).
