"For us, making music is like having diarrhoea. Just stick out your behind, and you've got bucketfuls." This is how lyrical Kotiteollisuus's bassist Janne Hongisto waxed when he described the band's songwriting strategy in an interview in 2002.
It took, however, another one and a half years before Kotiteollisuus really made it big with the album Helvetistä itään (2004). The record was a favourite among metal fans and housewives alike and sold platinum. Apparently this may have strained the band somewhat in the process of making their next album – in either case, this year's 7 is clearly much darker and heavier than its predecessor.
If you haven't seen Kotiteollisuus live yet, you may have an unnecessarily sweet idea of them. That's because the band is definitely at its angriest and harshest on stage. Don't forget to bring your earplugs, and come to feel how Karelia rocks you off your ass!
