The story of this band from Petrozavodsk, Russian Karelia, began in the early 1990s when a couple of musicians had troubles that not so many bands in Western Europe have to face: they were fed up with the state-formed Song and Dance Ensemble of Karelia and particularly with its sluggish bureaucracy. Respectively, they decided to have a band of their own. And so Myllärit was born, reforming the Karelian music scene in rather a radical manner ever since.
Myllärit has always been equally popular on the both sides of the Finnish-Russian border. Their debut album Eta Pravda was released on a Finnish record label, and the title song of the album was a minor hit in Finland. So far they have played dozens of shows not only in Finland and Russia but also in countries such as Scotland, Canada and the USA.
On the early days of their career Myllärit preferred folk music of rather traditional kind, but over the years they have moved more and more towards modern folk rock. This band of seven has got such a stage presence that if there was no such music genre as "stadium folk" before Myllärit, now there definitely is. If you have thought so far that an electric guitar is an essential instrument of all loud and frantically energetic music, you should go and see Myllärit play live. Their primitive strength and exhilarating joy of life needs no guitar heroes for its embellishment.
