Like many other bands in Finland and even at Ilosaarirock, Velcra too plays metal. But this is not your ordinary metal band: instead of loyal (or should we say unimaginative) following of the tradition, Velcra finds influences from a much wider scale. This is modern metal with samples and pop melodies, and the band is not afraid to use its best assets.
One of which is, undoubtedly, the vocalist Jessi Frey. On her lead the band is violent and sensitive at the same time, soft and manic. Oxymora make the music seem simple on the surface, but almost without your knowing it cites Nietzsche from the corner of its mouth. Shiny choruses turn in an instant to aggressive distorted guitar riffs that hit you like a heavy-duty percussion drill. Despite its heaviness, Velcra's music is totally unfit for feeling melancholic.
