Voltas' story is one of the least usual among all the local bands that play in Ilosaarirock. Having played together for less than a year, the band took part to the international Global Battle of the Bands contest in November 2004. The Finnish qualifying round was a piece of cake for them. And even if they didn't manage to bring home the scalps of all their opponents in the finals at London Astoria, it goes without saying that this tiny publicity trick helped Voltas to gain attention in volumes usually unthinkable for a band this young.
And note: by the time of the competition, Voltas had never recorded a single note. This year saw the release of their first EP, which is a split with Peace Band. Again, Volta's stocks are up for a rise, and their strong live performances do not harm either. The star of the live show is definitely the charismatic singer and bassist Kaapo Kokkonen.
