  ZEN CAFÉ

Things looked dangerous to Zen Café just a year and a half ago. They had released three immensely successful albums in a row — Ua ua (1999), Helvetisti järkeä (2001) and Vuokralainen (2002) — but after a massive number of gigs found themselves in a situation where playing together was just not as fun as it had once been. After a greatest hits album came out, the singer and guitarist Samuli Putro made public that Zen Café will not play gigs for some time now, and many fans were certain this was the final writing on the wall.

But to err is human, and in Zen Café's case one is glad to do so. After one-year-long holiday, the band came back earlier this year with the new album Laiska, tyhmä ja saamaton. This record shows that now playing together is fun again for Zen Café. And we fans enjoy all the more the band's comeback before a live audience, since Zen Café, besides having great songs, knows how to connect with the public. If you need further assurance, ask those who have seen them at Ilosaarirock in past years.
